2011 Halloween Costume- Ninja Turtle

This is Trent’s 2011 Costume! I didn’t get the step-by-step process, but by the pics you can kind of get an idea of how to make it.

The outfit I made so he can wear after Halloween, it is really soft fleece. I am not a professional, but one thing I learned that I suggest is to wash the fabric before you sew them. Doing these preshrinks the fabric so it stays the size you made! The inside is a soft fabric to cover the seams.

The shell I made with spray foam. You can find it at most hardware stores.  Spray the foam into a doom and make sure it is fully dry, 24 hours is the best.

I then carved the foam into a doom, hollowed out the inside like an actual turtle shell. After that I applied plaster of paris. After it fully dried I pray paint the shell. I used a textured spray paint to give it a better texture.

This is the inside and front of the knee bands. I use faux leather.

These are the wrist and arm bands.

The mask is made from felt. The belt is made of the same fabric as the bands. I tied it around his waist before I cut the fabric to know how long to cut it.

The buckle is a wooden circle found at craft stores. I couldn't find a small enough wooden M, so I made one out of orange oven baked clay. The M is hot glued together and is also hot glued to the belt. Let this sit for about an hour so it sets really firm. The two ends of the belt are held together by velcro. I had my son put on the clothes and the shell and then wrapped the belt around to find were to place the velcro, this step took both my husband and I to accomplish!

This is the breast plate. The chest is textured felt cut into rounded rectangles and sewn together. The sides are suede and the straps are left over green fabric that wraps over the shoulders and attaches to the shell. The side also attach to the shell. This is another step that required my husband to hold the shell on my sons back so I could place the shell's Velcro. The Velcro on the shell is supper glued.

This is the back of the breast plate. I used vinyl to make a thick and sturdier breast plate. It is a bit hard to sew, so take your time.
These were $2 at JoAnns
